Are You Over 21?

Cheers to a Mellow Year

blog | 12/05/2017

As the end of this year grows near and we begin to look ahead to 2018, we’d like to make a toast to the wonderful year we’ve had thus far. So, pour a glass and join us as we take a look at some of our favorite mellow moments.

We started the year off right by receiving top accolades during Whisky Magazine’s World Whiskies Awards ceremony, held in February. Our 2016 Limited Edition Small Batch was named America’s Best Kentucky Bourbon. The 2016 limited-edition bottling featured a 12-year-old Bourbon from the OESO recipe, a 12-year-old OBSV and a 16-year-old OESK. Four Roses also received Whisky Magazine’s Icons of Whisky America 2017 Highly Commended Awards for Visitor Center Attraction and Distillery Manager–Ryan Ashley.

In June, we celebrated Senior Brand Ambassador and Bourbon legend Al Young’s 50th Anniversary with Four Roses. We commemorated this milestone with Bourbon, of course – a special 2017 Limited Edition 50th Anniversary Small Batch Bourbon. Master Distiller Brent Elliott and Al Young worked hand-in-hand to select four of our 10 unique Bourbon recipes to create the Small Batch Bourbon. The recipes included a 23-year-old OBSV recipe, 15-year-old OBSK,13-year-old OESV and 12-year-old OBSF. The bottle is just as storied as what’s inside. For this bottling, we selected a retro bottle shape and label, modeled after the bottle design from 1967, the year Al Young started with the company.

Summer 2017 also marked the grand opening of our newly-renovated, 60,000-square-foot Bottling Facility located in Cox’s Creek, Kentucky. The grand opening event was another milestone in our ongoing $54 million expansion project of the Four Roses Distillery and Warehouse & Bottling Facility and was celebrated with our Four Roses family, local dignitaries, and other members of the community. We are excited to give you a tour of the new facility when you visit and we look forward to sharing the progress of our major Distillery expansion in the coming year.

As Bourbon Heritage Month got underway, we announced the release of our 2017 Limited Edition Small Batch, featuring three of our distillery’s ten unique Bourbon recipes. A 15-year-old Bourbon from Four Roses’ OESK recipe, a 13-year-old OESK and a 12-year-old OESV were selected for this year’s Limited Edition Small Batch. The first Limited Edition Small Batch in our brand’s history to feature only the low rye mashbill, the magic happened early on with this Small Batch Bourbon. After only his third test blend, Master Distiller Brent Elliott knew he had hit the target and then some. Check out the video below where Brent talks about the characteristics of each recipe in the 2017 Limited Edition Small Batch.
