OBSV
DELICATE FRUIT AND RYE
We’ll admit it: Four Roses’ Bourbon-making process isn’t the simplest out there. But combining two unique mashbills with five proprietary yeast strains to handcraft 10 distinct Bourbons allows us to achieve an endless range of flavor profiles unmatched in the industry. Each Bourbon recipe brings something different to the batch – and meticulously blending them to achieve the perfect bottle of Bourbon is all part of our craft.
This month, we’re highlighting OBSV. It is made from our B mashbill – a high-rye mix that yields a spicy, full-bodied taste; this combines with the V yeast strain, which adds delicate fruit, for a wonderfully balanced final product.
OBSV is the most rounded and versatile of our recipes at all ages. The extra rye of the B mashbill creates the dominant flavor with this recipe. The bright and slightly spicy character is apparent at any age, and the delicate fruit flavors created by the V yeast strain round out the complex palate with flavors of apricot, pear and plum. As this recipe ages in the barrel, the typical caramel and vanilla flavors develop, but the rich flavor of cocoa, cinnamon, and nutmeg are especially pronounced in the OBSV recipes. Overall the OBSV recipe is rich, bright, and complex with a long and mellow finish.
Though all 10 of our Bourbon recipes are equally loved, only the high-rye OBSV has the distinctive honor of being our award-winning Single Barrel recipe. In addition to Single Barrel, you’ll find OBSV making its voice heard in our Small Batch Select, where it complements five other recipes to achieve a deeply complex, 104-proof, non-chill-filtered Bourbon with a flavor profile unlike anything else on the market. In terms of our permanent lineup, OBSV shares the stage with the rest of our 10 recipes in the mellow, versatile Four Roses Bourbon.
